Deploying the browser extension with Google Workspace

If you're using Google Workspace you can easily deploy the Trelica browser extension to everyone in your organization who is logged in to Chrome with a work email address.

If you aren't using Google Workspace, or you want to deploy the extension to users of Edge or Firefox, as well as Chrome, then read about deploying the extension on Windows and macOS.

You must be an administrator of your Google Workspace to manage Chrome browser policies.

Before deploying, we recommend forcing users to log in to Chrome:

  1. Log in to the Google Admin Console with your administrator account.

  2. Navigate to Chrome browser > Settings > Users & browsers.

If you do not see a Chrome browser option in Google Admin then you will need to enable Chrome Browser management first.

  3. Under Sign-in settings find Browser sign-in settings and set this to Force users to sign-in to use the browser.
To deploy this you will need to create an enrollment token and then deploy this with an endpoint management tool. We recommend a staged approach to enabling forcing users to log in to Chrome as suddenly enabling it will disable user's profiles where they are not logged in, blocking them from their profile bookmarks and Chrome passwords. There's a worked example using JumpCloud which explains this in more detail.

If you don't want to force users to log in, then we suggest deploying the Browser helper (Windows or macOS) before rolling out the extension, because otherwise users will be prompted to log in to Trelica when the extension is deployed.

To add the extension to all managed instances of Google Chrome in your organization:

  1. Log in to the Google Admin Console with your administrator account.

  2. Navigate to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Users & browsers.

  3. By default the extension will be added to all users in your organization. To limit the deployment to a subset of users, select a child organizational unit.

  4. Click the add + icon and either:

    • Select Add from Chrome Web Store, search for Trelica and click Select, or
    • Select Add Chrome app or extension by ID, enter the Trelica extension ID igjpcenkahclnlkcldhphacgmfilbefd, and then click Save.

The extension is added to your Users & browsers list.

  5. Under Installation policy select Force install. The extension is added to managed instances of Google Chrome for the selected users.

Setting the installation policy to "Force install" in Google Admin Console.

If users are logged in to Chrome using their work email address then data will start to be sent back to Trelica.

For more information about adding extensions to managed instances of Chrome, refer to the Google Chrome documentation.
